Scientific Illustration

Workshop: Scientific Illustration

Scientific illustration is an important part of the Biological Sciences and all biologists must be able to produce good quality scientific drawings regardless of their artistic ability. Drawings not only allow to record an image of the specimen observed, but more importantly, they will help to remember the specimen as well as the most important features in it. This workshop offers a broad introduction to scientific illustration and it application to the Biological Sciences. It is intended to provide an overview of the different techniques, with special emphasis on black & white and watercolor techniques.

The workshop is designed as an interactive session, which will include:

  • Presentation on scientific illustration history, different techniques, their usefulness and materials.

  • Practical session where participants will develop a small drawing project.

Basic drawing material will be provided to the participants. Scientific illustration is scheduled for the morning session on Tuesday 2nd February 2016.
